To Each Their Own

Having two at the same time has allowed us to really appreciate the differences in our boys' personalities. For instance, Lucas is drawn to the intricacies of objects. He loves to manipulate an object to discover all the ways it can be used or, more likely, sucked. He turns over most cars/trucks/trains to inspect their wheels. He spent almost an hour today playing with the screen door, moving it a few inches open, then closed. Then a few more inches open, then closed. He just wanted to see what it took to control this object. Or he was plotting an escape for later tonight. We'll see.

Ethan, on the other hand, loves to play with objects but most often chooses to wield them as he yells with delight, toddling through what he has deemed his kingdom. While Lucas spends time in the park examining his stroller and emptying it of its contents (see photo), Ethan attempts to venture as far from the stroller as possible, collecting whatever he can find, looking back only to laugh at silly Mommy who is saying that funny word "No."

This is not to say that they don't share interests. They both enjoy a good handful of dirt in the mouth or dancing to the Sesame Street theme song until their pants fall down. But seeing each of them develop their own interests, interacting with the world in their own unique way, is such a treat.
