Our Goose

I have neglected to mention our first baby frequently enough. Our little girl, Lucy, is three years old and is such a special part of our family. We got her when we lived in Manhattan and she quickly became "The Goose". She has never understood that she is a dog, and that this is different from being a human. Sometimes we forget too.

Unfortunately, Lucy had to have surgery this week after a couple of weeks of unsuccessfully treating a growth on her paw. She came through surgery just fine and is now on the mend. The boys have been extra "nice" to Lucy during this time. "Nice" is what they say when they pet Lucy. They pet softly and slowly and say "niiiiiiice" over and over. It sure beats when they smack each other on the head and say "hit!" They know Lucy has an "owie" because her paw has been bandaged. What is less clear is why she has a cone on her head. Ethan calls it her "hat" and Lukey has been referring to her as a "light".

Despite Lucy's hard times, she has continued to participate in family activities such as waiting for the boys to throw something off their trays at mealtime and sleeping on the bathmats during bathtime. In fact, she has joined us for our newest favorite activity - waving to Daddy as he pulls out of the garage in the morning. She runs to the window with the boys and jumps up with both paws so she can see the car drive away. What a great big sister!

We love you Lucy-goose!!
