Rock Stars

The boys have both become more interested in music lately. Specifically rock music. We listened to a Fleetwood Mac CD almost exclusively for a week in the car, and the boys loved it. Ethan wanted to know what each song was about. Good question. They got to know that the singers were Stevie and Lindsay and Ethan always requested the “spell on you” song (Silver Spring). I did my best to explain that one to Ethan. “Well, Stevie loves Lindsay and wants to get married, but Lindsay doesn’t want to marry her. So Stevie is telling him that she’ll never forget about him.” Eventually I realized we were probably due for a new CD when I overheard Lucas in the bath singing “you’ll never get away from the sound of a woman that loves you.” Not the best introduction to the male/female dynamic. So the CD moved to Noah’s car, prompting Ethan to cry out from the window as Daddy pulled away, “Play Stevie for me!!”

We’ve been listening to a lot of radio lately in order to expose the boys to music I might not normally choose to play. Ethan is a big John Mayer fan and loves him some Skynard. In fact, he loves to sing what he thinks is “Sweet Heart Alabama” all around the house. Then he gets silly and inserts other state names, as in “Sweet Heart Ala-Oregon” or the classic rock hit “Sweet Heart Ala-Maine.” Good stuff.

So the timing was just perfect for the boys to receive their newest prize from the local library for their participation in the summer reading program – an inflatable electric guitar! So what is a mom to do, but blow them up and crank up the Aerosmith. And now for your enjoyment:

Like father, like sons. Their daddy LOVED "Old Black Water" by the Doobie Brothers, but his instrument of choice was the snare drum. Does that surprise you???
