Kids Say The Ba-Dah-Ba-Darndest Things...

This is my first contribution to the blog, since Jessica has been doing such a phenomenal job keeping it updated...and keeping it funny! However, I have been bugging her for a while to write one about the silly words our boys say because they can't quite mimic us perfectly yet. So here are a few of my favorite words in Twinglish, along with their English translations:

Family / People / Puppets / Animals
EH-tehh = Ethan
POP-pop = Grandpa
GAH-gah = Grandma
UHN-kuh = Uncle
UHN-tee = Auntie
UHM-uh = Summer (Aunt)
DzOO-ee = Zoe (from Sesame Street) and Joey (cousin) - (Ethan only)
AH-kah = Oscar (the Grouch)
EHH-muh = Elmo
Uh-NEHMY-nehmy = Anemone (Ethan)
Mnhl-mnhl-mnhl = Anemone (Lucas, pretty much just sticking his tongue in and out)

Food
NA-nuh = Banana
AHT-daah = Hot Dog (said with unwarranted excitement)
BEE-bees = Berries
Mihh-mihh = Milk (accompanied by the correct ASL sign, of course)
EHH-mee = Oatmeal
Cohhn = Corn
DAH-dah = Pasta
APP-uh = Apple
Ohhhhs = Cheerios
EAT = Eat (it was loud) - (Lucas only)

Stuff
BAH = Ball (and really anything else that starts with B)
HOP-baah = Football
DAH-ba-dah = Garbage truck (our absolute favorite!) - started out as Ethan, but Lucas soon started imitating him, so now they both do it
YAH-yah = Water and Yucky and Motorcycle
KUH! = Truck
GO-go = Stroller
a-KAH = Car
CAH-cah = Closet
EHH-men = Open
Tihk-a-tihk-a-tihk-a = Tickle tickle and twinkle twinkle (little STAHH)
Nung-ah-nung-ah-nung-ah-nung-ah = ????

And these are just the ones I can come up with off the top of my head! They can also say many "action" words perfectly, such as "up", "down", "in", "out", "under", etc. Well, not perfectly, because they can't really pronounce "R"s, "L"s, and about half of the rest of the alphabet. In fact, neither of them can even come close to saying "Lucas"! Nevertheless, they are an endless supply of fun and word-like syllables, and we can't wait to see what they come up with next...
