Parent-Teacher Conference

We had our first Parent-Teacher conference this morning. Is it strange that this is something I always thought about when I imagined having kids? It just seems like such a great way to gain insight into your child, to troubleshoot any issues as a team, and to be a proud, beaming mother.

So there I was, beaming away as the boys' teacher told me all about them. I was told that they are both very, very nice boys. They listen well, play nicely, participate enthusiastically, and seem very happy at school.

We talked first about Lucas and Mrs. Frasier immediately brought up his incredible imagination. He shares many creative ideas and loves to pretend. She said he is also great at communicating - very verbal, able to express his wants and needs. He's having no problem being the only gluten-free kid in class, happily accepting snacks that are sometimes different from the others. He's showing interest in writing, but rarely in art. He absolutely loves playing outside. He plays great with the other children, but is also independent. She concluded that he is just a delight.

Then we talked about Ethan. She shared that Ethan is a very compassionate kid. He is always the first to try to help or comfort a child who gets hurt or upset. He is also a great communicator, not only about himself, but he'll also be the first one to explain what is going on if a situation arises among classmates. He is also extremely aware of Lucas and making sure he is okay and included. At the same time, he is very social and makes friends easily. She also noted that he loves books. He'll often find a cozy seat in class and just sit and read. Like his brother, he's more interested in writing than art. She said he is also a total delight.

Mrs. Frasier explained that they do self-portraits with crayons several times a year and showed me their first installment. The essential features were covered - eyes, nose, mouth and head. She said by next time we might see hair and some ears. I can't wait to own the entire collection!

We talked more about their class, their activities and what is coming up over the next few months. I'm so happy with their preschool experience so far and am so very proud of my big boys. A beaming mother indeed!
